Girls Write Pittsburgh Playwriting Workshop!

Whether you are a Lin Manuel Miranda-in-training or have never written for the theater before, writing a 10-minute play can be an exciting leap into the genre!

Over the course of 4 weeks, participants will be introduced to the world of monologue/dialogue/scene writing, reading works aloud, and the peer feedback process. At the end of the workshop, participants will hear their words come to life in an evening of public readings.

Girls Write Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh Parks Summer Reading Series!

Girls Write Pittsburgh will be making an appearance at Autumn House Press’ second annual Pittsburgh Parks Summer Reading Series. This 3-month reading series is held on the final Friday of each month at the Sycamore Grove Shelter in Highland Park. The series is a free-to-the-public reading meant to bring literature out into the neighborhood. Anyone who wants to attend is encouraged to come early and stay late! Bring a blanket, bring a beverage, and enjoy readings from local and travelling authors!

For this year’s PPSRS, Autumn House will be joined by Girls Write Pittsburgh! At each reading a Girls Write Pittsburgh participant will read some of their work and introduce the authors! We’ll also have a table set up for anyone interested in volunteering or joining the program.

Dates are:

Friday, June 30 – 6pm – 8pm

Friday, July 28 – 6pm – 8pm

Friday, August 25 – 6pm – 8pm

Girls Write the Museum!

Register Here

April 2nd, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00pm, Carnegie Museum of Art and Girls Write Pittsburgh welcome self-identified girls ages 13–18 for a free writing workshop inspired by works of art at CMOA. The event is free, but you must register to participate.

CMOA staff and docents lead participants on explorations of the museum’s Teenie Harris Archive, the otherworldly garments in Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion, and its world-class paintings collection. Then, using the discoveries they’ve made in the galleries as inspiration, participants share ideas and craft poetry, prose, or short stories in creative writing workshops led by Girls Write Pittsburgh.

This event is part of the City of Pittsburgh’s Inclusive Innovation Week.
